Dab rig nails come in various shapes, sizes, and material. Although all our dab rigs here in Big Daddy smoke comes with a nail, you can push your sesh one step further by changing the nail to a different one. Here are different types of nails for your dab rigs that you can choose from and see which will work best for you.

The Titanium nail was the first type of dab nail material. It’s highly popular among dabbers because it’s really durable. Another thing is that it’s easy to heat up and can retain heat consistently.
When you see a metal nail, don’t think that it’s made out of titanium. There are cheap metal nails that pose as titanium which can ruin your dabbing experience. If you wish to try out a titanium nail, go for Grade-2 material. I higher-grade titanium does not release toxic fumes that can harm your health.
Titanium nails are excellent for high-temperature dabs. You can go as high as 550°F-650°F within about 30 seconds with your torch. Depending on the grade of material, your titanium nail can retain heat for about 20-40 seconds before dropping below sublimation levels (the point where your concentrate vaporizes instantly on contact without bubbling into liquid form).
Cleaning the Titanium nail after each use is easy. Just torch it until the left-over dab melts, and wipe away with a cotton swab.
A thing to note about Titanium nails is that it can interfere with the flavor of your dabs. If you have a highly discriminating palate, the titanium nail is not the one for you.
Glass is an inert material, which does not interfere with the taste of your dabs. It also gives a satisfying show of your dabs melting and bubbling into vapor. It’s easier to clean as well but unfortunately fragile. Glass also does not withstand high heat or thermal shock. Glass nails are good for low-temperature dabs, and will only tolerate high temperature for several sessions before breaking. You really have to watch out for the temperature when you’re using glass nails.

High-end quartz is thicker in comparison to glass, and therefore has better durability. Quartz nails often come as a side “bucket” known as a dab banger to help keep the heat away from the dab rig. Unlike titanium nails, quartz nails are cheaper because of low-cost manufacturing.
Quartz nails heat fast, taking mostly about 10 seconds to reach the desired temperature. However, it also cools off quickly. You have to be swift with your dabs, or you will lose that sweet moment for dabbing.
The quartz nail is perfect for low-temperature dabs and can heat up as much as 500°F.
Quartz is also easy to clean with just a piece of Q-Tip and isopropyl alcohol.
Ceramic combines the inert qualities of glass and the heat retention of titanium. What’s good about it is that it has excellent heat retention even in cold climates. Your ceramic nail takes 30 seconds to heat up and can hold its heat for almost a minute before cooling down. This is highly suitable if you don’t want to keep torching your nail, or if you’re passing the dab rig around with your friends. When it comes to flavor delivery, nothing beats a ceramic nail.
It does, however, take a while to heat up, and also has a lower tolerance to thermal shock. Make sure to heat the nail evenly so that you don’t have hot and cold spots that can cause it to crack and break. The ceramic nail is also very fragile, so you need to be careful when knocking it over or dropping it on a hard surface.
