How to Use a Dab Rig with Banger

A banger is a type of nail shaped like a bucket. Like any other nails, a banger can be made of glass, quartz, ceramic, or titanium. The most common type of dab rig banger is made up of quartz. It’s popular because it heats fast, durable, and retains the flavor of your concentrates. Regardless of the type of banger that you use, the principle is the same as with your dab nail.

Season titanium bangers

Titanium bangers should be seasoned to eliminate the metallic taste due to residual oil from the production process. To season a banger:

1. Attach your banger on your dab rig.


2. Heat the banger with a torch. Direct the flame towards the underside of the bucket. DO NOT sweep the torch around the surface, especially near the joint. You will risk breaking the joint if you do.


3. Let the titanium banger heat up. It won’t glow red at first, but you will feel the heat when you put your hand above the banger. DO NOT let the banger come in contact with your skin or you will get severe burns.


4. Cool the banger down. Use a pair of durable tongs and submerge it in a metal basin filled with water.


5. Repeat 2-3 times.


6. Heat up your banger until it feels warm (not hot) enough to melt your concentrate.


7. Take your concentrate and let it coat the inner walls of your banger. Remember that the concentrate should melt, not sizzle and vaporize. Apply up to 3 coatings of concentrate, and you’re ready to go.

Using your dab rig with a banger

There are three ways to dab with your banger dab rig: hot, low, and cold-start.

Hot dabs (for large dabbing)

1. Attach your banger to your dab rig.


2. Torch the underside of your banger until it glows red. This usually takes about 20-60 seconds. Do not sweep the torch to the sides or the heat will travel down the joint.


3. Put out the torch and let the banger cool just enough until it’s no longer glowing.


4. Take your dab tool and get a piece of your concentrate.


5. Inhale through the mouthpiece and place the concentrate inside the bowl of your banger.


6. Cover the banger with your carb cap and inhale the rest of the vapor.


7. Get a Q-tip and wipe out any residual oil left inside the banger.

Low temp dabs

This is for those who wish to enjoy the flavor of their concentrates minus the harsh heat of high-temp dabs.

1. Do as steps 1-2.


2. Let the banger cool down for 30-45 seconds.


3. Get your dab tool and take some concentrate.


4. Inhale through the mouthpiece sweep the concentrate inside the bowl of your banger.


5. Use the carb cap to cover the banger and inhale.


6. Get a Q-tip and wipe out the residual oil.

Cold-start dabs

This takes quite a bit of dexterity and practice to get right. but gives you the best flavor.

1. Take your dab tool use it to put your concentrate inside your banger.


2. Light up your torch and heat up the underside of your banger until the concentrate melts down.


3. Take your carb cap and cover your banger. You will see vapor starting to accumulate inside the banger, probably about several seconds until the heat from the base reaches the inner wall of the banger.


4. Heat up the banger again for a second or two if you don’t get anything.


5. Spin the carb cap as you inhale the vapor.


6. Clean any leftover concentrate with a Q-tip.
