What is a Spoon Pipe and How do You Use it?
When it comes to smoking herbs using a hand pipe, spoons are among the most popular smoking implements. You may have had a hit or two out of it from your friends without you knowing it.

What is a spoon pipe?

A spoon pipe is a dry pipe that has a shape of a kitchen spoon. They are commonly made out of glass, although there are some made out of stone, silicone, and metal. It’s a simple pipe that has four essential parts: bowl, carb hole, stem, and mouthpiece. The carb hole lets you control the hits you take from the spoon pipe and commonly located at the left side of the bowl. The bowl is where you put your herbs in for smoking.

Different types of spoon pipes

Spoon pipes are made with different materials. Many love using glass spoon pipes like the Helix spoon pipe because they give the best flavor overall. Glass has got to be one of the most passive, blasé material around when it comes to smoking. This gives you the benefit of having only the full flavor of your herbs one session after another. The first hit is as good as the last, whether you got your spoon pipe now, or ten years ago.

Silicone pipes are best for those who are crazy active – and crazy clumsy. Even if your spoon pipe is made from the toughest borosilicate glass on the planet, it’s not a match for a high fall or drop. New silicone spoon pipes like our EYCE Spoon Pipe are made from high-quality medical-grade silicone. Pack it in your camping bag, drop it from your mezzanine loft, and it’s still good to go. Will it melt? Of course not! Silicone pipes are platinum-treated to withstand high temperatures, so you can use them for as long as you want. They also come with glass bowls to make use and clean-up convenient.

You can also get a metal spoon like the Cali Crusher Combo. It’s a great spoon for those who prefer a modern, sophisticated design with versatility and functionality. Getting a metal pipe is a cheaper option depending on the design. However, it offers a different level of durability and longevity compared to silicone pipes.

Stone spoon pipes are also great pipes to use. They are earthy, durable, and come in one-of-a-kind designs that will bring you close to nature. Made with natural stone, they are guaranteed to last long and give you fun hours of smoking. Ideal for those who prefer to commune with nature and would like to experience what smoking was like in the early, early years.

How do you use a spoon pipe?

  1. Grind your herbs to a coarse grind, about half of a pea. Don’t grind your herbs too fine or you’ll get a Scooby. Big nugs don’t burn evenly and can waist a good herb. Fill the bowl about 3/4 full and pack it down gently just to keep the herbs from falling off.

  2. Put your thumb on the carb, with your pointing finger curved on the opposite side of the bowl.

  3. Draw through the mouthpiece gently. Light up the bowl until you got a good burn going.

  4. Keep drawing until you taste the smoke and you got enough smoke in the pipe. Regulate the smoke by pressing and releasing on the carb hole. The bigger the opening of the carb, the faster the smoke will hit you.

  5. Once you’re okay, release the mouthpiece and keep in the smoke for a second or two. Exhale and enjoy your pipe.

A spoon pipe is a fun and easy way to enjoy your smoke. You can get cute spoon pipes like the Empire Glassworks Sea Creatures Spoon pipe. It’s a wonderful spoon for those who love to go scuba diving or enjoy walking along the coast hunting for starfish and seashells. If you’re testing the waters first, there are some cheap glass spoon pipes to try like This Red with Green Marbles Boro Glass Spoon pipe. At $6.32, it’s a beautiful entry-level spoon pipe that you can take with you anywhere. It’s lightweight so you can place it in your pocket would barely feel that it’s there.
