How Do I Charge a Dab Pen Battery

How to charge a dab pen battery should be pretty simple, right? All you have to do is plug it in and it’s going to charge itself. However, there’s a proper way of charging a battery to keep your dab pen running smoothly.

How to charge a dab pen battery

When your dab pen blinks red or flashes 8 times, it’s time for you to charge. To charge it, you have to:

  1. Remove the battery from the mouthpiece of the dab pen. In some cases, you may need to detach it from a cartridge.
  2. If you have a 510 thread like the O.penVape, plug the USB charger to the recommended charger or your laptop. You’ll see the light of the charger go green at this point.
  3. Screw the 510 battery to the charger carefully and secure it until the light goes red.
  4. For dab pens with micro USB chargers like the Yocan Pandon, push the micro USB connection into the dab pen before connecting the USB to the charger.
  5. Depending on the size of the battery, you may want to wait 2-4 hours for the battery to reach its capacity.
  6. Once the charger light turns green, your battery’s done charging.
  7. Hold the charger (not the dab pen) and take it out from the USB port.
  8. Unscrew or pull out the USB charger from the battery.

Notice that there’s a unique method for 510 threaded batteries. Because you’ll be screwing the battery to the charger, there’s a tendency for you to tighten the connection a bit too hard. That will cause the firing pin to lower down and lose its connection with the atomizer and cartridge.

Some dab pens have 510 threaded batteries, while others have micro-USB or magnetic connections

Do all dab pens take the same charger?

Yes, they do. The shortest time that you need to charge a dab pen is 2 hours. Dab pens require a good amount of energy to heat the coils. The good thing is, a fully charged dab pen can last you 24-72 hours depending on how much you use it.

In case you’re wondering if there’s a way to shorten the charging time, the answer is no. There are fast chargers available as well as tablet chargers that give out too much power for your dap ben battery to handle. They may charger your dab pen faster than the regular charger a couple of times or more, but you also fry your battery in the process. Always use a laptop/PC USB port or a standard 5-volt charger to prevent overcharging your dab pen.

How do you know if your dab pen is charged?

Chargers have a pilot indicator that will tell you that your dab pen is fully charged. Most chargers turn green when the battery is done charging. If your dab pen is still blinking red or does not turn green after more than 4 hours, there’s something wrong with your charger.

Whenever you charge your dab pen, always be careful with the connections. Be mindful of the time you charged your dab pen, and only use the recommended voltage for charging. Apply these practices, and your dab pen batteries will last you a long time.
