What is the Optimal Water Level for a Beaker Bongs?

Aside from stability, the broad base of beaker bongs allows for more significant water capacity. Bongs have optimal water level because you need to get the flavor and filtration just right for a good hit. Generally speaking, there are two “landmarks” for checking the water level.

  • The downstem should be covered by 1 ¼ to 2 inches of water from the bottom tip.
  • The slits or gills of your stem should be fully submerged

Testing water level

What you want to avoid when filing up your beaker bong is that nasty backsplash. Test your water level by filling up your beaker bong. Chug it without lighting up the herb in the bowl. If you had to chug hard and water reaches up to your lips, reduce the amount of water. Gradually reduce the water level until you get the right pull.

Measure the water level by placing the beaker bong on a flat surface. Get your ruler and note the water line from the base, as well as from the bottom of the perc. You can whip out your ruler every time you measure the water level until you become comfortable without it.beaker bong water level

Things to consider

  • Percolator – always give attention to the percolator added to your bong. All the percs should be covered with water. Level of water in each percolator should be just above the slits.
  • Too low water level gives you a sharp flavor, but the milk will be harsher on your throat and lungs. If you find that you always cough with each pull, you may need to increase the water level.
  • Too high water level gives you increased filtration for a smoother, cleaner hit. It may need a stronger drag, so it’s not advisable for those with weak lungs. Another is that you get that nasty backsplash of dirty bong water — something that is guaranteed to ruin any hit, no matter how good it gets.
  • The size of your beaker bong can influence the water level. You cannot use a 2-inch water level in a mini beaker bong. In the same subject, you cannot use a 1-1/4 inch water level in a 17-inch beaker bong.

The best way to know the optimal water level for your beaker bong is to use it often. The more you use it, the more you will understand how it works. You’ll eventually find the optimal water level for your beaker bong depending on its size.
